Death Race 2050 Isn't Blah

Death Race 2050 is an American political satire and action movie that came out in 2017 and stars Manu Bennett, Marci Miller, and Malcolm McDowell. The movie was directed by G.J. It is a follow-up to the movie Death Race 2000 from 1975. Roger Corman made both movies. He called the second one "a car racing movie with some dark humor."

So, what's the story behind Death Race 2050?

In 2050, the world is in the grip of a dystopian future. The Death Race serves both entertainment and population control in the United Corporations of America, which is afflicted by overpopulation and an unemployment rate of 99.993%. The current Death Race spans from New York City to Los Angeles and includes defending champion Frankenstein. Jed Perfectus, Minerva Jefferson, Tammy the Terrorist, and ABE, a black, artificially intelligent, self-driving automobile, struggle against Frankenstein in this action-adventure film. During the race, each driver is allocated a virtual reality broadcaster who gives the viewers a virtual reality experience of the race. As soon as he meets his proxy, Annie Sullivan, Frankenstein is turned off and refuses to speak with either her or her proposals to allow his opponents past him.

Rebels, headed by former network producer Alexis Hamilton, lay traps around the sector as the cars race along the East Coast. Taking turns murdering the cult members of the other's group, Tammy and Minerva quickly develop an enmity. When ABE runs into a rebel trap, it malfunctions, kills its proxies, and leaves the race to figure out what it's here for. At the first checkpoint, Hamilton instructs Annie, her spy, to murder Frankenstein. Her effort to woo him fails since he is just interested on winning the race. In other places, the Chairman says that Frankenstein has become a burden because of his lengthy life, but Perfectus will urge his dedicated followers to die at his hands.

On Day 2 of the race, the competitors will make their way through the country's heartland, an area that is well-known for the high prevalence of gun ownership among its residents. A suicide bomber sent by Tammy is successful in taking the life of Chi Wapp, who was acting as Minerva's proxy. When Frankenstein tries to save time on another tip, he takes a shortcut, but this causes his automobile to get stuck in a cornfield. As Annie goes out on her own, Frankenstein defends himself against a team of Resistance ninjas in order to rack up more points. As soon as they reach the second checkpoint, Annie confesses that she is a member of the resistance and makes an effort to enlist Frankenstein. Frankenstein, who is uninterested in politics, expresses his disdain for both the opposition and the government while maintaining that his only objective is to come out on top. Minerva admits to Annie when they are both drinking at a pub that she is a highly educated academic who, in order to maintain her lifestyle, has adopted the persona of a stereotypical hip-hop character. When Annie returns to Frankenstein's chamber, Perfectus, who is envious of Frankenstein's notoriety and sex appeal, is about to kill Frankenstein, but Annie manages to spare his life. In the meanwhile, it has been found that Hamilton and the Chairman have been conspiring together behind the scenes.

On the third day of the race, the government establishes "authorized" routes for drivers to escape Resistance assaults. Annie assists Frankenstein in shifting gears since his right arm was injured during his battle with Perfectus. Minerva pursues Tammy, but jumps over a cliff in an effort to prevent Tammy's suicide proxy. Tammy gloats over Minerva's death until an ABE returns, smashes her into a wall, and self-destructs, killing them both. Frankenstein and Annie eliminate Hamilton and her rebels, while Perfectus finds a covert road to victory. Both automobiles jostle for position until Perfectus loses control of his vehicle and smashes into the virtual reality control booth. Before reaching the finish line, Frankenstein informs his admirers that the Chairman is worth a thousand points. Frankenstein invites the audience to abandon their virtual world and begin their own Death Race after murdering the Chairman, much to their joy. Frankenstein and Annie observe from a distance as the nation descends into violent anarchy, arguing that they should repopulate the nation after the violence subsides.

How did Death Race 2050 come to be?

Corman received the idea for a sequel to the first picture when being interviewed by an Italian journalist who said that The Hunger Games reminded him of Death Race 2000. Corman approached Universal Pictures, which had created the contemporary version (which Corman believed had lost too much of the original's political criticism), and proposed reintroducing the dark humor of the original. "You did a terrific job," Corman said, "but you left out the pedestrian killings and the broken-society themes."

Corman began filming in his late 80s, right around the time of the 2016 presidential election season. There is a picture of the UCA Chairman in it. "The president's hairstyle could be similar to Trump's, but I don't want to get into that because Trump will come and go and the film will remain," said Corman in an interview.

People seemed to like Death Race 2050.

"Many Death Races for a movie series about them ending. After the late 2000s/early 2010s Death Race (Roger Corman's Death Race 2050) trilogy with Jason Statham, Roger Corman returns with Death Race 2050. It was a great sequel to the original Death Race 2000 from the 1970s. A three-day race across a dystopian America, where pedestrian deaths get points for over the top characters! But this time the title has a 50." - Youtube reviewer Decker Shado

The Making of 2050, the Look of 2050, and the Cars of 2050! Automobiles! Date of birth: 20 March 2017

Rotten Tomatoes gives the film an 88% approval rating based on eight reviews, with an average rating of 6.8/10, as of June 2019.

In the words of Chris Alexander, the film is "loud... shrill... spastic... sadistic... stylish... slipshod... stupid... smart. " According to Scott Weinberg, a reviewer for Nerdist, the film is "clunky," "ramshackle," and "kitchy, but that's part of its charm." It has "enough blood, guts, simplistic political commentary, scenery chewing, and terrible special effects to become a cult classic," according to Zavala of a website.
